Test sound

Confirm the app hears the right source.

The microphone picker in the Live tab shows a level meter that moves as you speak — watch it react before a show or class so captions start from the right speaker or audio.

Test sound

Confirm the app hears you before you go live.

In the Live tab, the microphone picker shows a level meter that moves as you speak. There is no separate test to run — the meter is the test. Watch it react before you start captions.

Watch the level meter

Speak at your normal volume. The segmented meter lights up and reads Sound detected when it hears you. If it stays flat it reads Quiet and prompts you to try speaking.

  • Speak normally
  • Sound detected = good
  • Quiet = check the source

Pick the right source

The microphone menu lists your input devices plus System default. Choose the device that actually carries the audio you want captioned — your mic, or the desktop audio for a show.

  • Device menu
  • System default
  • Match the show audio

If it stays quiet

Check the Windows volume mixer and that XNN Translate has microphone permission, reconnect the device, then reopen the picker. When the meter moves as you speak, you are ready to start captions.
